The salmon season has started!

Now we are finally there! The salmon season has opened in Iceland for another year.

River Norðurá opened this morning in extremely challenging conditions. We have enjoyed a warm spring here in west Iceland with blue skies for the most of May without a drop of rain. Last year was the complete opposite with rain pouring most days.

River Norðurá was measured at 40 square meters per second last spring but now only 3.7! Rain is predicted thankfully soon.

But the fish thankfully arrived in numbers and the first one was caught shortly after the fishing started, a well kept 74 cm female. The river gave all in all 7 salmon on the morning shift which is a good result.

Tomorrow river Blanda will open and we will of course keep you updated.
