Salmon fishing has started in Iceland

Yesterday the first salmon fishing river opened in Iceland. The river is one of Iceland’s largest glacial rivers, river Þjórsá.

Þjórsá has the largest salmon stock in Iceland but it is mainly fished with nets as the water is murky. Recently they tried fishing a certain beat with rods with good success. On the first day 10 two year salmon were caught all in very good shape which is a good indicator for the summer.  The river was very murky after heavy rains so all the salmon were taken on worm.

Now it is only  8 days until we open river Blanda and needless to say we are getting very excited.
