River DEE Scotland

Last week of the season 313 from the DEE. Hopefully this will be a good strong sign for better spring fishing next season. This is the first recovery after storm Frank, better time for this great river to come indeed.
Season Report from www.fishdee.co.uk
Final fishing week on the river Dee w/c Monday 10 Oct 2022
So, it is the final week of fishing for the 2022 season on the Dee and water levels being just right, ghillies and anglers will be happy with a fantastic number of 313 salmon recorded for the week, that takes us well past the overall season total for 2021 as the autumn has been so good compared with the spring catches this year.
I will do an annual roundup and share the final total with you on the 31st of October in my 2022 review, then we have a chance to check back with some of the beats not recorded on FishPal and the ADDA club beats numbers can also be added in. Numbers for the 2022 season are estimated at 3500 for the moment.
Just a quick round up from some of the ghillies on the river this week as follows; –
Nicol at Tilbouries let me know that on Friday they had a big fish landed at last light in the larches pool and measured 42’’ caught by Grzegorz Loszewski from Poland, who had been fishing for a few days with friends, so we are delighted for him. Tilbouries has had its best season in over 10 years with 168 salmon & grilse & 17 sea trout landed for the 2022 year.
At Park, Keith told me about their momentous week with Emanuel Farinoli having a super total of 19 salmon to 21lb, Guy Thurlow party 15 to 10lb, which included Karen Cordery who had 9 to her own rod. Local rod David Murray had 6 to 7lb, Jake Young had 2.
Bert Webster also retired yesterday, and we wish him well and look forward to seeing him back on the river with his fishing rod, thanks to all of you who put messages on the Facebook page for him, I have let him know about them so he can read through all of your good wishes.
Brian at Cairnton was delighted to report that

congratulations

were in order again for Lewis Blair for landing a 21lb fish in the Cottage Pool on the last day of the season on a size 8 Cascade with his favourite Scott Mackenzie Switch rod. Not only a brilliant finish to the 2022 season for Lewis but it is also the biggest fish off the beat this year. Well done to all at Cairnton for encouraging and supporting young Lewis.

Ali at Dess got a message from me on Monday as I could see it had been a busy day on the beat, he told me that Marcin Kolodziej had 5 salmon and a sea trout, Grzegorz Loszewski ( who caught the large fish at Tilbouries on Friday) had 2 and Rafal Kaminski had a red letter day with 5 thumpers of 25,19,16,16,13 lbs respectively. A day to remember for sure. Ali also said it was a good week to finish off the season at Dess with 37 salmon and 7 sea trout. He mentioned that the bigger fish came on the take in spells which was nice after dropping several the week before. Sport was shared between the party from Poland and local FishPal rods and it was great to finish on a high and indeed pass the 5-year average but the end of season
Drew at Birse told me that Lars Terkildsen and his team from Sweden returned to close the season out. The beat had their best week landing 27 Salmon/Grilse and 4 Sea Trout. Successful flies were Monkeys, Sunray, Red Francis and Torpe Nymph. Lars finished with 7 fish to 14lbs and 3 Sea Trout. Sune Hornquist had 6 to 13lbs, Ove Wersen had 6 to 14lbs and 1 Sea Trout. Per Eklund was delighted to land his 1st Scottish Salmon on the fly and finished the week with 7 to 14lbs. As the final day ended Drew also put a 8lber in the book. Birse are incredibly pleased to have finished the season up on last year’s catches with 131 Salmon and 65 Sea Trout, meaning that they finished above their 5-year average for both Salmon and Sea Trout.
A list of all the other beats with fish this week is shown under this report in the table. I popped along to the Falls of Feugh yesterday afternoon and saw salmon jumping, so we must leave them now to continue their journey.
