Your own little river

Miðdalsá runs through a lush green valley in west Iceland. The river is delicate and gin clear and offers fishing for sea run arctic char and the odd salmon.

There is a nice basic cottage with a view over the river, two rooms and space for up to 8 people. There is a full kitchen with a fridge and outside a BBQ.

I have personally fished the river and had a wonderful time. I ventured far up the valley exploring and searching for fish. And find fish I did indeed, in small pools in the upper river there were plenty of arctic char and to my surprise a few salmon as well. In half a day i caught three char and three salmon and still it was very lazy fishing. You see there where so many blueberries in the hills around the river.

The lodge is perfect as a base to explore the surrounding area and even the west fjords.  You could on short trips during the day and take a dip in the local swimming pool in a little village close by. Then in the afternoon the char would be rested and waiting for you in the river.

A days rent in Miðdalsá including the lodge and license for two rods is only from 150 – 290 euros per day. Some hotel rooms in the capital cost more than that but they don’t serve fresh blueberries for breakfast.
