Total Catch in Iceland 2017

Now that the season is well and truly over we have the final numbers from all the rivers in Iceland for 2017.

The general feeling during the summer was that runs were somewhat slow but the final tally tells us the year finished just above average with 45.500 salmon caught. The average catch for the years 1974-2016 is 41.888 salmon. In 2015 which was the fourth best from the start the catch was a total of 71.708 salmon.

Even though the catch was just over average this year the catch was not divided equally with rivers in the north and West fjords having a bad year.

Hopefully we will see a very good year next year, we as anglers are always optimistic.
