Opening of West Ranga

West Ranga opened this morning. Anglers were very excited as fish had already been seen in the river in the days before the opening.

And the West did not disappoint, 10 salmon were caught in the first shift – all healthy MWS up to 100cm. Yes you read correctly, one of the fish was a stunning 100cm fish estimated well over 20 pounds. And they lost one after a lengthy fight which they believed was even bigger.

All the fish were from  78-100cm and they lost many as well. Not only were they catching salmon, there were also good size sea-trout biting.

We sure hope this good opening is a good indicator of a great summer to come.

We still have a very limited number of rods up for grabs in the West Ranga.
