One of Norway´s top salmon rivers.
 The river Orkla is located in central Norway, and runs down the Orkla valley and out into the Trondheim fjord by the town Orkanger, approx. 35 kilometers south of the city of Trondheim. The Orkla is rated as one of the most attractive salmon rivers in the country.
The catch numbers for the last 5 years (number/average weight): 6792/3,5 kg (2001), 8564/4,2 kg (2002), 9278/3,9 kg (2003), 3881/5,1 kg (2004), 5966/4,6 kg (2005). Between 15 - 45 salmon over 35 lb are caught every year, and 40+ pounders are caught almost every summer. The chance of catching the North Atlantic salmon of your life is absolutely possible in the river Orkla! A 5 year bag-net buy-out project in the Trondheim Fjord started in 2005, and has had a very positive impact on the salmon run in the Trondheim fjord rivers. In 2004, the last year before the project started, the total catch in the fjord was twice the catch in the rivers. In 2005 this ratio was turned around, and the river catches were twice the catches in the fjord!
The total length salmon runs in the river is approximately 90 kilometers, and the Aunan lodge is located 60 kilometers from the river mouth. At Aunan we can offer 12 salmon beats and fishing stretches giving a total of 12 rods. 9 of the stretches offers double bank fishing. Total length of the fishing stretches is about 6 kilometers. Several beats offer magnificent fly-fishing. At the Aunan water July and August yield the most salmon as for then there is a mixture of grilse and salmon. June is the trophy fish month. There won't be as many fish about, but they will be big. Given fairly good weather/water conditions and the angler's skill level, between 1-4 fish is a reasonable expectation per rod per week.
 Our guides are experienced salmon anglers and fly casters, with tons of local knowledge about the river and the Aunan water. One guide per 6 (4) anglers is available for a minimum of 8 hours per day. All fishing tackle must be disinfected before use, and this can be done on site. There is a tackle shop on site where you can buy flies, leaders, lines, waders, rods and reels.
Some of the pools at Aunan are wide while others are more intimate. A 15 ft rod will cover everything. Take floating, intermediate and sinking (WetCel 2 type) lines, all of which might be needed depending on water level and water temperature.
We are offering four lodges/cabins close to the river in a quiet and tranquil setting. There is a total of 12 bedrooms, 9 twin and 3 single. There is no less than 1 bathroom with shower per 2 bedrooms. All cabins are non smoking. The top cabin can sleep up to eight people in twin beds and each of the four bedrooms has an adjoining bathroom with shower and toilet. The lounge is very comfortably furnished and has an open fire and a view of the river. A large balcony off the lounge faces the river and after a tiring and long day fishing you can enjoy the ultimate luxury – relaxing in a large jacuzzi, enjoying the hot water under the open sky with a drink in your hand while looking for possible salmon runs and leaps in the river. Rooms for drying waders and clothing are available in the cabins.
An old potato store adjacent to the cabin complex is converted into a charming dining room with a licensed bar. Local raw materials and ingredients are widely used in the meals we prepare. Meals can also be served outside on the river bank, if the weather conditions are nice. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know.
A complex attached to the north end of the potato store contains a small gym, sauna, showers and an outdoor, wooden bath tub.
