Last summer I went on a hiking holiday with a very good friend, Anna Maria, towards Iceland highland, to „Longsea“ at the southwest corner of the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajokull.
Day one we boarded a mountain bus in Reykjavik and made our way into the hiking area, to the north shore of Longsea where we hiked until the east end of the lake, where we tented for the night
The following morning we continued around the lake toward the southeast corner, where we hiked onto the mountains surrounding the south shore, called „beautiful mountains“ Whoever came up with these wonderful names, Longsea, Beautiful Mountains clearly had a good eye for the surroundings.
These mountains are without a doubt beautiful mountains and the scenery from them magnificent. Happy hikers made their way this evening back to camp where we had a lovely meal ....a little bit of red and then plenty of sleep...only interrupted by wind from the glacier.
Next morning we packed our belonings, made a boat trip across the lake to the southwest shore with a short stop by the island „love“...yet another beautiful name well suited.
We took shore and continued our hike along the Beautiful Mountain ridge, to the southwest corner of the lake where we made camp for the last night. We had a fantastic yoga exercise directed by our wondeful guide, Asta Arnardottir, thereafter we had our beloved icelandic lamb, followed by a delicious chocolate cake&cream....hard to imagine in the middle of nowhere ....and some good drops of red.

Thereafter our second guide, Ingibjorg played the guitar and we sang into the night which was very peace and restful.
Last morning packed our things again and made our way to the top of Sveinstindur from where we enjoyed immense view to all directions. I can easily say that the mountain bus was full of very happy and tired hikers on our way back home....where each and everyone probably was eager to take a shower.
For me personally this trip was outstanding and had great effect on me...so much that I decided to prolong my holiday whereas I could not stand the thought of being inside so I ended up not going to work for another week.
Now I know this is my country so I see it perhaps differently and more sentimentally but this is all of our universe and the work of art God has created in so many places is very much worth taking the time to admire, the different shapes, colors of earth, water, sky, weather and atmosphere is a gift to take in.
