The char fishing in Vididalsá is by many considered to be the best char fishing in the world. It is about 4 km long and exclusively to 2 rods. The area is very beautiful and easily accessible on 4WD cars, although we recommend anglers to walk the river to get to know it better. Vididalsá river runs to a lake called Hópid, the top beat of the char fishing is called Hamarshylur but above that is the salmon area the bottom beat is the junction of the river and Hópid.
The pools:HamarshylurThe top pool of the char area. There are fences on both banks. Most often the West bank pool is fished. There is a good change of catching a salmon in the char area first half of the summer. The char lies in the riffle.
The river is wide by Hamarshylur and can be changing in the spring and sometimes the main river goes over to the East bank. Often you can fish from both banks.
Ferjuhylur, FerjuflótLarge and long pool. Usually the fish is located at the top, middle and bottom part of the pool. Try the whole pool.
Vesturkvíslinn, Miðkvíslinn og Austurkvíslinn.Fish often lies in the top of Vestukvísl. Midkvíslin is usually not very productive. You fish Austurkvísl where it runs to Torfhylur
TorfhylurDo not underestimate the Torfhylur pool. Often very good. Fish it well and also the current that runs to the Breiðan
BreiðanBreiðan is where the water meets again. This pool has been the best of the char beat for the last few year.
VesturkvíslBelow the Breiðan is the pool Vesturkvísl where there is a good change of catching a char, specially the top pool. Changes from year to year.
Below the Vestukvísl are many pools, but hard to point out any special. The lower part runs slowly and the river is deeper. Please keep on walking down the river to the lake Hópid. Fish the bottom part of the East branch.

The surroundings of Gauksmýri invite you to walk along and watch both birds and horses in their natural environment.
It is also a very good idea to combine the char beat with the salmon beat on Vididalsa, 3 days on each beat.
How to get there:When driving from Reykjavik you come to a small diner/shop called Vidigerdi. You pass the shop and the farm Sólbakki and the next farm Laufá on your left.
Slow down after passing the Laufás farm, by the next farm called Refsteinsstadir you turn left. There on the hill you see the lower part of the char beat.
Keep on driving the small road until you come to a crossroad, turn left and drive the small path to the fishing area. Just before you reach the river there is an unmarked parking where it is ideal to leave your car and walk to the fence. There you see the upper part of the fishing area.
