 Last 4 year average catch on Tungufljot river for 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 is 1432 salmon pr. season. This catch is exclusive to 6 rods only.
Tungufljot river has proven itself amongst the top salmon self catering rivers in Iceland, you can get a really good catches in a beautiful surroundings with the waterfall Faxi as the crown. Comfortable cabins by the river with jacuzzis. Then you just need the right flies, great food and good company to nourish your soul.
Tungufljot river is located 100 km South East of Reykjavík, only an hour away from the capital of Iceland Reykjavík. This makes transfer from the airport convenient and anglers can go direct from the International Airport to the river and back. There is no hotel cost in Reykjavík involved either domestic airfares. The river is in size slightly bigger than East and West Rangá and is rated as a large river on Icelandic standard. It is gin clear water and offers endless pools for fly fishing. The Tungufljot rivers system is one of the biggest in Iceland, it is the main river which is about 30 km long with three attractive tributaries which joins the main river on the upper part plus several other lesser important tributaries and sight streams.

| In 2010 2000 salmon took the fish ladder at the Faxi falls spawned in the upper reaches of Tungufljot and its tributaries. |
During some days the run was so great at the fish ladder that we could pick the salmon up by hands! In high water the salmon jumped over the trap so we in fact do not know exactly how many fish went up river except the ones we counted , could have been much more during the high water. |

| Very interesting the salmon run of Tungufljot, this season we had fresh fish running from the beginning of July until 20th of October which is fantastic and unique for Iceland to have such a long season. |

 Since Tungufljot opened we have had many of satisfied anglers fish the beautiful river. One of them is Robert Rauch, who is fishing the tail out of the Faxi Falls in the picture.

Standing below of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland hoping that the pool is full of fish waiting to get up the fishladder. But would they take my fly ?
Skuli my guide, who is, to my mind, the best expert on salmonfishing on earth ( together with Arni ) noticed a few fish "head and tailing" " Robert, I better get the net ! " Skuli said " Why get the net? I have not hooked a fish yet" I replied, while working the fly through the pool.
I had hardly finished my very pessimistic words when a fish took my fly very argressive. Woooouuh, what a bang!! It was quiet a job to get the fish out of the strong cristal clear current below the falls. I finally managed the fish into Skuli's net.
In order to built up the salmon stock on the Tungufljot Skuli took the healthy hen fish to the breeding box in the fishladder. Was this pure luck ? No, it was not ! Within a few of hours I had 7 freshrun salmon taking the fly very hard and even Skuli, only fishing my rod for a couple of minutes, had two salmon. It is very rare that my armes ache from playing fish, but this day they did. By the way........ wonderful pains !!!
I am very convinced that the Tungufljut will be the star performer of future years. The fishing was exceptional and the beautiful scenery made the fishing a day in a lifetime. I am looking forward to fishing it next year again. All the best Robert

Tungufljot is a long river , from the estuary were Tungufjot joins the large clacier river Hvitá up to the waterfall Faxi is about 10 km, from Faxi up to the top waterfall (no salmon can enter) is about 20 km, in total the river is 30km long. |
Tungufljot has very clear water and steady water level, will not matter if it rains or not the waterlevel on Tungufljot is very steady because it come mainly from spring sources. |
 Accommodation: At Tungufljót you have the choice of staying in a comfortable self catering summer house or at one of the nearest full service hotels in the area. There are four comfortable summerhouses, each for every two rods. The houses are close to the waterfall Faxi in beautiful surroundings.
In each house are beds for five people in two rooms and in the comfortable livingroom is a television and a radio. The kitchen has everything you need to preper the perfect meal with a microwave, overn and on the veranda is a jacuzzi and a gas barbeque grill.
Many people prefer the self catering lodges over full service because then you have the choice of having full control of what to do and do it exactly like you want to have it. No timings for meals. The best choice is to book two full rods and get a summerhouse private to you and your friends.
How to get there: To get to the Tungufljót lodge drive Main road number 1 almost to Selfoss, right before Selfoss you turn left into road number 35 and follow that road to Reykholt. Drive through Reykholt and 8 kilometers more. On your right hand side you see a sign Knoðrabúðir and Sveitasetrið. Turn there and you will come to a dirt road, then go left, pass one small road to your left and then turn left. On your left hand side you will see green summerhouses and the first one is number 2 and the other is number 3. Check the Lax-á office for which one you are suppose to stay in.
