- The River
Nordurá is one of the most treasured trout fishing river in Iceland and there is a good possibility of catching a Salmon in September.
The best fishing time is August and September when the char runs from Héradsvötnum for spowning in Nordurá. In the fall Salmon tends to linger where the rivers meet and many anglers cought salmon there last summer.
In Nordurá in Skagafijordur are 6 rods allowed.

The fishing area starts at the junction pool at lake Héraðsvötn and ends at a bridge by the farm Heiðarsporð on highway 1.
Best flies for trout: Heimasæta, Appelsínugulur nobbler, Queen, Muddler Minnow, Dentist, einnig eru púpur t.d. Peter Ross, Blóðormur og Peacock góðar.
Sometimes dry flies are a good idea f.ex. March Brown, Evrópa og Black Gnat.
Best flies for salmon: Black Brahan, Frances, Snælda and traditional Salmon flies.
Possible to drive to beats, however, can be a good walk to some parts of the area.
