Krossa in Bitrufjordur is a charming, little salmon river in the North West of Iceland that annually gives around 80- 100 salmon. There are two rods in this river and it has not been rented to the public in years, now there is uppertunity to fish there for our cilents.
The area is around 8 km with 22 fishing pools and the pools go from Svartfossi to Nedri bru. There is both fly fishing and worm fishing and there is a quote of 3 salmon per rod per day.

Recreation: From Krossá to Hólmavík there are c.a. 40km. To drive that route in clear visibility, is very grand but you drive through Strandir to the north and the view and the energy from the ocean is incredible and unforgetable. There is drift-wood all around the coastline and the open ocean as far as you can see. When driving through Ennishöfði the view over to Dranganes is spectacular, the mindblowing nature that takes your breath away. If you’d like to fish more, it is very good to drive through Steingrímsfjarðarheiði to Langidalur where Langadalsá river runs through. There is a very nice lodge that houses 16 people comfortably. It is possible to make a stop in Hvannadalsá before and then end in Laugardalsá where the Mjóifjörður and Ísafjörðu scenic view leaves you breathless. By Laugardalsá there is a cosy lodge with room for seven people and it really doesn’t hurt to meet the lodge keeper, Sigurjón á Hrafnabjörgum, but he knows the area like the back of his hand so you are in good hands. We recomend to take pictures and even have picnicks on the way, because this is a trip that is impossible not to like for the scenic route which is simply beyond words.
Clothing: In spite of the relatively mild climate, you should bring warm clothing and, most importantly, quality rainwear and a windcheater. Please check out the average temperature table here below. Chest waders and wading shoes. Nicer clothes to wear for dinner.
Tackle disinfection: Iceland has always been free of diseases like UDN and Gyrodactylus salaris and we intend to keep it that way. There is a strict policy of visiting anglers having their tackle sterilized before coming to Iceland. This should be done in a 2% formaldehyde solution for 10 minutes and performed by a veterinary surgeon. (Tackle sterilized in Virkon S is also acceptable.) A signed inventory of what has been sterilized should be provided by the vet for presentation to the customs officers at Keflavik airport. The most important items to be treated are: rods, reel/line, waders and flies.
The process can be carried out by staff at Keflavik airport. The office is located at the far side of the baggage reclaim hall, downstairs in the airport. Just notify one of the personnel in the area that you need your tackle disinfected and they will have a member of the staff come and complete the process. The price for one fishing set is 3.500 Icelandic kronurs.

The fishing comes with a comfortable self catering lodge with two bedrooms and a sleeping area in the attic. The lodge is quite spacious so this is the perfect place for families and small groups.
To drive from Reykjavík, you start by following the sign to Borgarnes and then, the sign to Akureyri, over Holtavörðuheiði until you reach Staðarskáli (A popularig stop with a gas station and restaurant). From there you drive in the direction to Ísafjörður/Hólmavík (route 68, it used to be called route 61 and can be found in most older maps). From Staðarskáli there is c.a. 50km drive through Borðeyri and Hrútafjörður to get to Bitrufjörður which is more or less paved all the way. When in Bitrufjörður you should drive until you reach a sign on the left side of the road which reads Krossárdalu road nr 641. The lodge is ca. 5km from route 68. When in Krossárdalur the road leads you over a bridge and pass Gröf, the farm. Then the next farm on the right is called Árdalur and right across it by the river stands the lodge (white with a green roof)
