Great start to the season in Iceland

Many of the Trout Rivers and lakes in Iceland opened for business on the 1st of April. Spring is prime time for the sea-trout rivers and most of them yielded very good catches during the opening days.

Some rivers were unfishable simply because they were still frozen solid but the winter in Iceland has been extremely harsh with more snowfall than we have had for years. In rivers like the famous Tungufljot they had to postpone the opening for a few days but when the river finally cleared the catch was good with sea-trout up to 70cm. In nearby Tungulækur the fishing was exceptional with 81 sea trout caught on the opening day with the largest one a 10 pounder.

Little Varma in Hveragerdi benefits from Warm water that flows in to the river and could therefore open as planned on April 1st. Varmá has been on fire the first few days since its opening with arctic char and Sea- Trout up to 12-14 pounds.

We are extremely pleased to see how well the trout season starts and hope the salmon will follow suit.
