We cater to both the serious angler and novice alike. Located in the Cariboo Mountains of central British Columbia at Quesnel Lake, the world's deepest fjord lake, the area is noted for spectacular scenery, wildlife and world class trout fishing for legendary wild native Rainbows and Dolly Varden. Pyna-tee-ah's professional guides, with over 25 years experience, host fully guided trips in two parks and on the major rivers and lakes in the surrounding watershed.

Rivers such as the Mitchell, Horsefly, Cariboo, Quesnel , Blue Lead, and some of our favorite smaller rivers, streams, and creeks in our spectacular Cariboo Mountains flyfishing playground. These waters are all home to wild, native trout ranging in size up to 20 lbs and offer excellent dry fly and streamer fishing. Fishing for wild trout in the quiet solitude of the river, disturbed only by the splash of the big 'bow dancing on the end of your fly line, is the ultimate trout fishing experience. And, if you can tear yourself away from the fishing, you will find these pristine wilderness river ecosystems refreshing to your spirit as you take in the antics of the native wildlife in their natural habitat.

You may even see a mountain grizzly enjoying his favorite salmon dinner. Fly fishing is excellent throughout the season - dry fly from mid June through August and wet flies and egg patterns throughout the fall months give you non-stop exciting action for big 'bows and voracious Dolly Varden.

Hundreds of thousands of sockeye salmon return to these rivers each year to spawn and complete their life cycle, making this watershed host to British Columbia's largest and most noted salmon run. Drift fishing and wading are the best methods for fishing these rivers. For a relaxing change of pace, visit an outstanding series of remote mountain fly fishing lakes where the dry fly fishing is superb. You also get to enjoy the magnificent mountain beauty of our back country - uncrowded and pleasing not only to the eye, but to your spirit. With such a wide choice of opportunities you and your guide will pick the waters offering the best fly fishing opportunities during your stay. Rivers are catch and release and barbless hooks are required.

Mitchell River - An Extraordinary Wilderness River Fly Fishing Classic. Late summer dry fly fishing for trophy rainbows gives way to fall wet flyfishing as the clear glacial river waters run red with returning sockeye salmon. We fish these big rainbows and bull trout with egg patterns and streamers such as egg sucking bunny leeches and flesh patterns. This goes on through October. Lots of our fall fishing is done on the Mitchell River which is in the Cariboo Mountains Park where we have 'grandfathered rod days". We hold 90% of the rods on the Mitchell River so we have nearly exclusive use of it. It is an exceptional wilderness river. The big 'bows and Dolly Varden are stirred into a frenzy as they follow the salmon to spawning grounds on the pristine Mitchell River. Fishing for these trout ranks among the finest on the planet. You will find these trophy trout, a strain unique to this area, are the hardest fighting fish that have ever bent your rod. This world class river rivals any steelhead river!

Horsefly River - A Heritage River Fly Fishing Experience. The historic Horsefly River - a beautiful meandering river, draining the icy waters from it's origins high in the rugged Cariboo Mountains on the border of Wells Gray Park, it races and tumbles over beautiful Horsefly Falls creating perfect habitat for the legendary wild rainbows of it's lower reaches. Designated one of Canada's Heritage Rivers, the Horsefly is unsurpassed in natural beauty and an outstanding trout fishery.

The Horsefly River is one of the province's classified waters. This means it is closely monitored to maintain the quality angling experience it is known for. The Horsefly was also the site of the original gold strike that sparked the Cariboo Gold Rush of the 1860s.

Quesnel and Cariboo Rivers - Rugged Rivers, Wild, Wild Trout. These rivers are the main tributaries of the Quesnel Lake watershed draining the waters from the rugged Cariboo Mountains into the Fraser River. These are wild mountain rivers of unsurpassed beauty with exceptional rainbow and dolly fishing from mid-July through October. These are two of the rearing rivers for the legendary rainbows and Dolly Varden of the Quesnel Lake fishery and two of the best fishing rivers in the province with the least fishing activity. You may even hook up a steelhead or Coho, Spring or Sockeye Salmon. In mid July there is a Chinook salmon run on the Quesnel River and we fish these along with the rainbows. Chinook salmon fishing remains excellent through August and September. The Quesnel and Cariboo Rivers were also two of the primary gold rush rivers of the 1860s so take time out from fishing and try your luck with a gold pan.

Streams and Creeks - With the rugged Cariboo Mountains overhead, the crystal clear waters of the streams and creeks tumbling into Quesnel Lake, the deepest fjord lake on earth, watching the take on your dry fly or streamer just doesn't get any better. Fishing the river and creek mouths offers up trophy trout that challenge you with their strength and ingenuity as they tail dance across the water, head shake to release your fly, and make runs that test both you and your gear.

Wilderness Mountain Lakes - For a change of pace and a little different action spend a day on our wilderness mountain lakes where the feisty trout keep you entertained on dry flies. Enjoy a shore lunch of fresh caught trout along with the serenity of the spectacular scenery. An unforgettable wilderness experience.

Mitchell Lake - Five Star Wilderness Adventure This is a premier wilderness adventure in the spectacular Cariboo Mountains. A flight by floatplane takes you into 15 mile long Mitchell Lake, the jewel of Cariboo Mountains Park. Keep your camera handy as you'll be sure to want to photograph some of the spectacular "bird's eye views" of the Cariboo Mountains. On arrival at Mitchell Lake you will be settled into Pyna-tee-ah's very comfortable camp. Grab your fly rod and start landing Dolly Varden and rainbow trout right in front of camp and on the rivers and streams and creek mouths. Excellent dry fly and streamer fishing. Wading, boat and float fishing. Enjoy exploring the Mitchell Lake area, taking in the spectacular mountain glacier scenery, native wildlife, and relaxing. Don't miss visiting this secluded mountain paradise in June through mid October.

We use stonefly variations, salmon flies, crystalbuggers, flashbuggers and lots of our own attractor patterns to name a few.  Streamer and nymph fishing is also excellent. The prince nymph is one of our most productive favorites.

For All Trips You Need To Bring: Waders, wading boots (no metal cleats, corks or studs), rain gear, hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, camera, film, batteries, flashlight, binoculars, day pack, personal toiletries and medications, warm jacket and clothing you can layer. (Mitchell Lake Trip Only  sleeping bag rated for at least 32F 0C. Fishing licences and flies are available for sale at the lodge pro shop.)

We recently purchased and have renovated a wonderful lodge on 5 acres of land on the Quesnel River, which is one of our main fishing rivers, at Likely, BC.

It features 1 single room, 4 double occupancy rooms, and 1 quad room and full bathroom facilities. It also has a greatroom with natural stone fireplace, dining facilities, small rec room with pool table and a pro shop.

Likely is a small community at the foot of the Cariboo Mountains. It's history stretches back to the days of the Cariboo Gold Rush in the mid-1800's. Likely is about a one hour drive east of Williams Lake. Williams Lake has a commercial airport with three flights daily from Vancouver by Jazz Air which is an Air Canada affiliate and Pacific Coastal airlines.  We provide ground transport from Williams Lake or guests can rent a vehicle and drive out to Likely if they wish.

Our meals are what we call country style gourmet. All of our meals are made from fresh ingredients and include specialty desserts and homemade bread, pies, cookies, etc. The day begins with breakfast at 6:30 am. Breakfast may be ham, bacon, sausage and eggs with homemade bread, french toast, omelets and hot and cold cereals. Lunch is usually packed including sandwiches or wraps, snacks, fruits, and soft drinks or juice and water. Everyone returns to the lodge around 5 pm for 'happy hour' and a freshen up before dinner at 6:30 pm. Dinner may be turkey, prime rib, barbecued ribs (one of our specialties), almond chicken, chicken cordon bleu, barbecued steak, fish or other specialty dish served with salad or soup, potatoes, rice, chef's choice vegetable and dessert. After dinner guests can relax around the lodge or fish in the Quesnel River in front of the lodge. Give me a call to review the few good spots still available in 2006.
