Hambare Lodge

Information

HambereLodge015The freshwater Dorado (Salminus maxillosus) known in Argentina as the "Tiger of the River" is considered to be the single most challenging native freshwater game fish of South America.

It is a radiant, yellow-colored, salmon-like fish with an extremely strong jaw and sharp teeth.

Unlike its cousin the salmon, it does not die after spawning and never swims in the ocean.

The Dorado is an exceptionally strong swimmer and normally ranges in size from 8.8 lbs to 15.4 lbs, although the world record is 52.8 lbs.

It hammers top-water flies with reckless abandon and immediately explodes out of the water in a series of outrageous jumps and relentless, line stripping runs.

Its physical beauty, its violent strike, its long, powerful runs and its acrobatic fights are some of the qualities that make the Dorado the exceptional sport fish that it is.

Hambare is a strictly catch and release fishery.

Accommodation

HambereLodge003Hambare Lodge, situated at a privileged landscape with scenery of rivers and luscious vegetation and palm trees, offers a brand new concept in what adventure Sportsman’s refers.

Hambare counts with a perfect infrastructure made for absolute comfort to our guests. Ran by its owners, Hambare offers exclusive personal dedication and attention to each one of the guests. The lodge consists of two buildings; the main house, and a modern building. Both offer single or double bedrooms with private bathrooms.

Each one of the nineteen guest rooms respond to the high demanding requirements from guests offering a great combination of TV, AC, heat, as well as laundry and cleaning service. Some of the rooms have fireplaces, balconies and others have river views.

Our restaurant serves local food which contrasts in taste and variety with the international cuisine, also served.

Together with typical dishes of the area, there are also special ones made of different preys either fished or hunt during the day, accompanied by the well known excellence of Argentinean wines.

Argentina is well known for being one of the best wing shooting locations and is considered the mecca by bird hunting enthusiasts. Hambare offers wing shooting of doves, partridges and ducks. The lodge operates with a large network of fields which include rice crops, grass fields, and lagoons selected depending on the season and species the hunter is seeking. When going duck shooting, hunters are taken in the early morning to a post, along with a field assistant plus a dog for the recovery of the pieces. For partridge hunting the “looking-for” modality is preferred, while partridge hunting is done with dogs. Dove-hunting is done by post, close to the fields where birds feed.

HambereLodge016The hunting day starts very early when hunters leave for the fields located 22 miles away. Guides are waiting at the hunting location with horses, and the hunting equipment. A horseback riding trip, which takes almost 3 hours, crosses extensive areas of land - part of which are under water - forests, lakes or rivers. Then, hunters meet up with another guide, who has previously arrived at the hunting field and has located the animals and determine the most appropriate position for shooting. The taxidermy is conducted at days end. The average hunting trip takes a full day. Lunch is brought to the hunting field.
