Lax-á Angling Club wish you Merry Xmas and a happy New Year !
It‘s almost Christmas, and the weather and temperature here in Iceland completely reflect that fact. In recent days the temperature has gone well below freezing Reykjavik, and as low as -20° Celsius in other parts of the country. The memories of last summer, and the anticipation for the next one, keep us warm though.
Bookings for next summer are off to a flying start, many rivers are now almost completely booked, but there are still good days available in others. We’ve added some new rivers and beats for next summer such as Stóra Laxá, Nordlingafljót and the Syðri Brú beat in Sogid.

Stóra Laxá is medium size river in the southern highlands, best known for her large multi-winter salmon. August and September are the prime months, but July can often be very productive as well. Stóra is considered by many anglers to be the most beautiful river in the country, look it up on our website – you’ll see what we mean. The river is divided up into 4 beats with beats 1 & 2 sold together. In total the river holds 10 rods and has three separate self-catering lodges.

Norðlingafljót is in the western part of the country, with a self-catering lodge and plenty of salmon. Late July and August are the best months and September can be a very productive month as well. The number of rods in Norðlingafljót is 5 – 6 rods and the river is divided up into 3 beats.

Syðri Brú in the river Sog is a one rod beat with a brand new and very comfortable lodge. It’s ideal for families, or groups, that want to relax and catch a few salmon. The location makes it ideal to plan sightseeing tours, the national park Thingvellir is nearby and the ever-popular “Golden Circle” rout (Thingvellir – Geysir and Gullfoss) is also nearby.

Many of our other rivers turned out impressive figures at the end of the 2010 season, records were set in Blanda, Hvannadalsá and Brynjudalsá, others such as Svartá and Laugardalsá were well above the 10 year average.

The East & West Ranga’s held a steady course throughout the summer; East Ranga replaced West Ranga as the top river for this season, moving the latter into second place. Although West Ranga finished with fewer salmon than in 2008 and 2009, it was still a good year. The July catches were very promising, but August didn’t quite deliver all that we expected. East Ranga was literally jam-packed with salmon, and was well over the 5-year average of 5400 salmon.

Our operations outside of Iceland, (Russia, Norway etc.) are being finalized for the summer of 2011. As ever, Arni himself is securing the best possible days in the best possible rivers, those interested in Russia or Norway should contact him through

.
In short, most of our rivers did either quite well or exceptionally well, the natural salmon stock is in better shape than it has been for decades and our smolt release programs are getting more effective each passing year.
See you soon
