Tiger Fish is the ultimate freshwater game fish. If you have ever tried the violent take and fierce fight of a big Tiger, you will have to agree with this. Lax-a can offer you a number of fishing options across Southern Africa mainly on the mighty Zambezi river and its tributaries as well as on the big Caborra Bassa Dam. The fishing is taking place in remote very beautiful areas with lots of game and combines nicely with some additional days of game viewing and tourism in general. The fishing is great and there is nothing like hooking a big Tiger and figthing it with an Elephant or a Hippo watching!

To really get the best out of your Tiger fishing trip you will need to go with a good specialised fly fishing guide. We organise private guided trips for groups of 2-8 fishermen with some of Southern Africa’s best guides. Availability is limited, please book well in advance.  Read below information about Tiguer fishing in the Barotse flood plains, Ntwala Island Lodge (Namibia/Botswana), Impalila Island Lodge (Namibia/Botswana), Nhenda Lodge (Mozambique), and Goliath Tigers in Congo.

Tiger fishing in the Barotse flood plains
An up-market tented camp on the banks of the upper-Zambezi in the remote Western Zambia. This is indeed a special venue where 7-8lb Nembwe and Tiger fish in exess of 20 lbs can be caught! It's a 5* venue with top notch food, cold beer and well equipped boats that are always at the ready!

Ntwala Island Lodge (Namibia/Botswana)
The ultimate in luxury and exclusivity. In the middle of the complicated net of waterways that meets close to the point where four countries meet (Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe) there is a small luxury lodge on a small island that will accommodate up to 8 guests. Book the lodge for your own exclusive use and spend the days exploring the rivers for Tigers and the evenings relaxing on the sun downer deck enjoying gourmet meals and great wines. Your trip will be hosted by one of South Africa’s most experienced and knowledgeable fishermen and writers. Trips start and end in Kasane in Botswana. Season June to November.

Impalila Island Lodge (Namibia/Botswana)
Close to Ntwala Island lodge and fishing the same areas, you will find Impalila Island Lodge. Great location, great food and service and great fishing. Hosted trips for 3-8 anglers. Trips start and end in Kasane in Botswana. Season June to November.

Nhenda Lodge (Mozambique)
On the remote Southern side of the giant Caborra Bassa Dam you will find Nhenda Lodge, a small, rustic, family run lodge with good food, cold beers and some of the best fishing on the Dam. There are many little bays and inlets in the vicinity of the lodge where Tigers can be found and caught. Our private guided tours for 3-6 fishermen starts and ends in Johannesburg airport from where we fly to Tete in Mozambique, then drive 4-5 hours before sailing across the Dam to the lodge. This is Africa as it once was. Season March to December.

Mnyera and Ruhudji Rivers, Tanzania
Some of the finest, wildest and most productive African fisheries are found in Tanzania. Here fishermen have a real opportunity of landing tiger fish of over 20lb’s. In fresh water this is almost unheard of. Now combine this fact with the speed, strength, aerial antics and aggressive nature of the tiger fish, and dump it all in river flowing through one of the words last true wilderness areas, home to big game, and then you may begin to get an idea of just how unique this fishery is. Tented camps in remote wilderness area. Season August to November.

Goliath Tigers in Congo
Congo’s fabled GOLIATH Tiger fish have been recorded in excess of 50 KG! However due to the huge size and depth of the Congo river and the inaccessibility of the areas, very few have ever been caught on the fly. We have over the last year been involved in exploring a new Tiger fishing operation on the Congo river and have found places where the Goliaths can successfully be targeted with the fly. This is still work in progress and adventurous anglers wanting to try for 10 KG+ Tigers can join us on explorative trips in the period June to September.

We start in the morning and head to the area around glacier Eyjafjallajökull. We drive on rough roads and cross numerous glacier rivers to reach Thorsmörk glacier and volcano valley. We spend some time exploring these adventurous surroundings. In the early afternoon we leave this lovely rugged environment and drive down to the black basalt sand shore south of Eyjafjallajökull-glacier. Right here by the Atlantic Ocean we experience the enhanced driving ability with the partly deflated 38" tires. In the end off the day we head back to Rangá lodge.

hvannadalsa2011_110712_1.jpg

We have some very good days available in Hvannadalsa, one of our rivers in the West-Fjords. We have been cultivating this river for a number of years now, and the results have been extremely good. A couple of years ago the river nearly broke the 500 salmon mark – on  only 3 rods.

Like so many rivers in Iceland the prime season is from late July until late August, so these are very good dates.

Recent Catches

The River Dee saw a lot of anglers fishing the length of the catchment looking for the elusive salmon with catches reported from Park to Crathie. If you were in the right place at the right time there were fish to be caught. The numbers of fish running this river so far do appear to be well down on last year’s excellent spring catch with season to date catch of 1286 quite a bit down on the 5 year average spring catch of 2028. That said FishDee beats reported 143 salmon to 21 lbs and 8 sea trout. Carlogie had an excellent total with anglers catching 21 salmon, Aboyne Water and Birse reported 10 apiece with Ballogie and Cairnton just one behind on 9 apiece.

Blanda_opnun_2010_100607_8.jpg

The spring has finally arrived in Iceland and now we are all awaiting the summer with great anticipation. Even though the trout season has already started – we are all counting down the days until the salmon season starts. It’s only three weeks away.

Blanda is our first river to open on June 5th and in mid and late June other Icelandic rivers follow suit. Our new river Skjalfandafljot opens on June 18th (we are very excited about this one), the Ranga’s (East & West) come into play in the beginning of July and Vididalsa opens in late June. By July 1st all our rivers in Iceland have opened up.

Gaula in Norway and Kola and Varzina in Russia are in their prime in June – But Lakselva in Norway reaches the height of the season in July.

The Dee in Scotland has been open since the beginning of February and began with a bang, low waters plagued the river in March but things are looking up now.

In July we will welcome our first groups in the new hunting & angling camp in Greenland – our biggest hunting project to date.
