After the hard rain from the hurricane there was a nice rise of about 2 inch in the river, when we started fishing this morning and through out the day, waterlevel was still rising, also the weather was changing, therefor most of the day was research on the pools. I must have made about 10.685 cast today with the dryfly
and the hitch, I got some action but nothing to grab about. There were only 2 salmon landed today, however, many lost and one of the salmon was to Rebecca from Switserland, her first ever landed atlantic salmon (grilse) 5lbs, well done to Rebecca.. Tomorrow will be interesting, for sure, I plan to catch a fish from every pool. We have put down International teams in the lodge, team viking(Iceland + Canada) Team Chocolate(Swiss) Team Maple(Canada) and the Tecka team(Argentina + Canada), just a local tease to work on the group:). I must add that the guides here in Bonaventure river are quite something, they know the river so well, they know the fishing, they have all things in order these guys, speak good english, prepare the best river lunches, you can´t ask for more in a guide.. 06 February 2012 The 2012 salmon fishing season commenced 1st of February at River Dee with the traditional opening ceremony held this year at the Potarch Bridge. The opening ceremony was very well attended with around 250 people gathered on the river bank to watch TV personality Paul Whitehouse perform the ceremonial cast and entertain the audience. There were 30 salmon reported on opening day with the first fish of the season landed at 9.45 am by delighted angler Graeme Scott with a nice 12lb fish at Commonty. The heaviest fish on opening day were actually two, both 36 inches. Two salmons were caught on our Lower Crathes beat with angler Greig Thomson catching one and losing another fish at the net shortly before the first catch.

06 February 2012 Greenland is the wildest place on earth for char fishing. This is the biggest island in the world, and in fact one of biggest countries as well. Greenland is inhabited with only 55.000 people, sharing thousands of rivers and lakes, full of Arctic Char. This means that many of those fishing areas are hardly fished at all, some rivers have not seen an angler - ever. You will catch Searun Arctic Char from 1 – 7 lbs. The fishing is on a vouluntary catch and release basis, but you will appreciate this high quality fish on the BBQ as often as you like.
