Here are the top 25 Icelandic Salmon rivers. All information may vary because those numbers are 1 day old. An update will come next week. LAX-Á rivers are in bold. Now when we have the numbers from West Ranga our prediction was right. we had an explosion in the figures but in only two days of worm fishing 516 salmon were landed. Even though West Ranga is doing well, her sister, the East Ranga is still on top in this weeks top 25 salmon rivers of Iceland.

Photo taken in East Ranga our top Icelandic Salmon River of the Week.

Opening_Dee_2011_Jock_Royan_110210_1.jpg

The 2012 salmon fishing season commenced 1st of February at River Dee with the traditional opening ceremony held this year at the Potarch Bridge. The opening ceremony was very well attended with around 250 people gathered on the river bank to watch TV personality Paul Whitehouse perform the ceremonial cast and entertain the audience. There were 30 salmon reported on opening day with the first fish of the season landed at 9.45 am by delighted angler Graeme Scott with a nice 12lb fish at Commonty. The heaviest fish on opening day were actually two, both 36 inches. Two salmons were caught on our Lower Crathes beat with angler Greig Thomson catching one and losing another fish at the net shortly before the first catch.

Greenland is the wildest place on earth for char fishing.  This is the biggest island in the world, and in fact one of biggest countries as well. Greenland is inhabited with only 55.000 people, sharing thousands of rivers and lakes, full of Arctic Char.  This means that many of those fishing areas are hardly fished at all, some rivers have not seen an angler - ever. You will catch Searun Arctic Char from 1 – 7 lbs.  The fishing is on a vouluntary catch and release basis, but you will appreciate this high quality fish on the BBQ as often as you like.

Brynjudalsa is a small, delicate river right outside of Reykjavik (45 min. drive) that offers very good fishing, regularly going over 300 salmon on 2 rods. This river is perfect for short trips, one or two days, and can also hold your attention for longer periods.

There are several options for accommodation available, a cottage near the river, a hotel close by or simply stay in Reykjavik and have a guide take you back and forth.

There is simply nowhere else inthe world that produces the combination of big fish and hugh runs as the Kola Peninsula. And the variety of water is awesome. Famed rivers such as Kola, Kitsa, Yokanga, Varzina and the renowned Ponoi are all destinations that Lax-a can offer.

This one rod beat in Sogið, only 45 minute drive from Reykjavik, is perfect for those who don’t want to travel far from the capital for a couple of days of salmon fishing. The beat has the most salmon caught on the river per rod with around 100 to 150 salmon caught each year. It has a fantastic house that comes with the rod and plenty of activities in the area for all of the family.
