So I am heading back to recharge my spirit. There are very few rods still remaining this season but I do know there are still 3 rods for 3 days of great fall fishing if you can join me on this great river Sept 13-15. Just over a week from right now. The fishing is really good this time of year and particularly so this year. The magic of the country where our great sport all began is always good. When I fished in Sept of 2008, it was a thrill never to be forgotten and I put this time on the highlands as one of the top highlights in my long career of chasing salmon around the globe. It just does not get any better. Lax-a offers arguably the best beat on the entire River Dee with Lower Crathes just a few kilometers below the most charming village of Banchory.
Accommodation can be arranged at various guesthouses, bed and breakfast houses, or local country hotels. The use of a rental car is required to have the freedom of moving up and down the beat and to have any time you like shopping, touring around, playing golf, Castle sightseeing and poking about this beautiful part of the Scottish Highlands. One can easily fill a week or a month of great adventure even if you only get to fish for three days. It is really the perfect combination holiday fishing vacation. Salmon are all two-sea--winter fish averaging some 12 pounds with some big brutes up to 30 pounds landed every year.
Please get in touch right away if you can do this adventure September 13, 14, and 15. I know you will have a great time fishing and I can bet you will enjoy all the other activities to keep you coming back for years to come. Contact Fred at

06 February 2012 The 2012 salmon fishing season commenced 1st of February at River Dee with the traditional opening ceremony held this year at the Potarch Bridge. The opening ceremony was very well attended with around 250 people gathered on the river bank to watch TV personality Paul Whitehouse perform the ceremonial cast and entertain the audience. There were 30 salmon reported on opening day with the first fish of the season landed at 9.45 am by delighted angler Graeme Scott with a nice 12lb fish at Commonty. The heaviest fish on opening day were actually two, both 36 inches. Two salmons were caught on our Lower Crathes beat with angler Greig Thomson catching one and losing another fish at the net shortly before the first catch.

06 February 2012 Greenland is the wildest place on earth for char fishing. This is the biggest island in the world, and in fact one of biggest countries as well. Greenland is inhabited with only 55.000 people, sharing thousands of rivers and lakes, full of Arctic Char. This means that many of those fishing areas are hardly fished at all, some rivers have not seen an angler - ever. You will catch Searun Arctic Char from 1 – 7 lbs. The fishing is on a vouluntary catch and release basis, but you will appreciate this high quality fish on the BBQ as often as you like.

There are several options for accommodation available, a cottage near the river, a hotel close by or simply stay in Reykjavik and have a guide take you back and forth.

There is simply nowhere else inthe world that produces the combination of big fish and hugh runs as the Kola Peninsula. And the variety of water is awesome.
