Lax-a has a comprehensive fishing program in Africa, each of our trips well worth a dedicated trip, but why not combine 5-6 days of fishing with a great safari or general tourism trip? World class fishing for Tiger fish, Tarpon, Trout and Yellow fish as well as world renowned flats fishing for Bonefish, GT, Permit etc. Read on to see several new developments for the coming season

What about Giant Tarpons in Angola? The worlds biggest Tarpons can be caught around the Kwanza river mouth in the early months of the year and we are hosting two groups in February 2011.

This is hard core fishing for the biggest Tarpons in the world. Watch 170- 200 lbs silver Tarpon coming out of nowhere just behind your fly and experience nerve wrecking fights lasting several hours.

Or Tiger fish? Africa’s premier fresh water sport fish giving you great fights in classical African settings, with Hippos and Elephants grassing nearby. There is a number of different subspecies, including the fabled Goliath Tiger in the Congo.

We are involved in several explorative trips for Goliaths this June-August and can still accommodate a few anglers. If you are a group of 3-4 anglers why not book an exclusive trip to a remote camp on the Caborra Bassa dam in Mozambique with a top class South African guide. Catch big tigers in spectacular surroundings. Or try the fishing from great luxury accommodation on large the Zambezi River.

Or why not Tanzania which gradually is evolving as a top Tiger destination. A 3-5 KG Tiger will put up a spectacular fight, stronger than any other fresh water species.

Or trout in Lesotho? We do trip for individual anglers or small exclusive groups into Lesotho and on the edge of Lesotho. We are always exploring new rivers in this remote mountain kingdom and there have been fantastic catches recently.

The season starts again in October and last until May.

Or flats fishing in the Seychelles. The flats around the Seychelles offer fly anglers some of the most exhilarating saltwater fly fishing you will ever experience.

Here you will have the opportunity to wade across hard, white sand flats in search of cruising bonefish or tailing permit. Very few of the flats are heavily grassed, although permit and large bonefish enjoy such areas, it is easy for even a relative novice to sight cast to fish. A wide variety of species inhabit these flats, including bonefish in large numbers, various Trevally species, the ever elusive permit and triggerfish just to mention a few.

You will be accommodated on a luxurious Afri-Cat, this diesel powered catamaran is equipped with the ability to get you to these remote Atolls in far less time than the smaller yachts. Depending on the size of the group you will be accommodated on a 3 or 4 suite Afri-Cat.

We start in the morning and head to the area around glacier Eyjafjallajökull. We drive on rough roads and cross numerous glacier rivers to reach Thorsmörk glacier and volcano valley. We spend some time exploring these adventurous surroundings. In the early afternoon we leave this lovely rugged environment and drive down to the black basalt sand shore south of Eyjafjallajökull-glacier. Right here by the Atlantic Ocean we experience the enhanced driving ability with the partly deflated 38" tires. In the end off the day we head back to Rangá lodge.

We have some very good days available in Hvannadalsa, one of our rivers in the West-Fjords. We have been cultivating this river for a number of years now, and the results have been extremely good. A couple of years ago the river nearly broke the 500 salmon mark – on  only 3 rods.

Like so many rivers in Iceland the prime season is from late July until late August, so these are very good dates.

Recent Catches

The River Dee saw a lot of anglers fishing the length of the catchment looking for the elusive salmon with catches reported from Park to Crathie. If you were in the right place at the right time there were fish to be caught. The numbers of fish running this river so far do appear to be well down on last year’s excellent spring catch with season to date catch of 1286 quite a bit down on the 5 year average spring catch of 2028. That said FishDee beats reported 143 salmon to 21 lbs and 8 sea trout. Carlogie had an excellent total with anglers catching 21 salmon, Aboyne Water and Birse reported 10 apiece with Ballogie and Cairnton just one behind on 9 apiece.

Blanda_opnun_2010_100607_8.jpg

The spring has finally arrived in Iceland and now we are all awaiting the summer with great anticipation. Even though the trout season has already started – we are all counting down the days until the salmon season starts. It’s only three weeks away.

Blanda is our first river to open on June 5th and in mid and late June other Icelandic rivers follow suit. Our new river Skjalfandafljot opens on June 18th (we are very excited about this one), the Ranga’s (East & West) come into play in the beginning of July and Vididalsa opens in late June. By July 1st all our rivers in Iceland have opened up.

Gaula in Norway and Kola and Varzina in Russia are in their prime in June – But Lakselva in Norway reaches the height of the season in July.

The Dee in Scotland has been open since the beginning of February and began with a bang, low waters plagued the river in March but things are looking up now.

In July we will welcome our first groups in the new hunting & angling camp in Greenland – our biggest hunting project to date.
