The past few years we have been able to offer clients the rare opportunity to hunt one of the most sought after Arctic big game trophies, the most wanted Musk-ox.. Combination Hunt for Musk Ox and Reindeer can be arranged in the month of August. Based in Qaqartoq, 5-7 days trip, all exclusive, full board and lodging, Hotels, transport, trophies, guiding, boats This is the combo trip every hunter is dreaming about for decates, and we here in Lax-á can make that dream come true. Hunting area is huge, All transportation in Greenland is either by boats or helicopters and if you take your trophy early , you can go fishing for the Greenland searun Arctic Char ore the Arctic cod with your bare hands, that is something you should try to do before you departure this wonderful country with it´s spectacular nature sights..

There are two main hunting areas we have to offer our clients. One is on the West Coast of Greenland, in the Kangarlussuaq region. The other is on the southern part of Greenland, near Ivigtut. The area between the coast and the ice field plays host to 4,000 to 5,000 oxen.. This area has excellent grazing and is one of the reasons for the impressive size of beast found there. A typical trophy will be around 350 - 480kg, some 15% heavier then those from other areas of Greenland. Our guides provide only the best trophies..

There are two seasons for hunting musk-ox and each season has its own charms and challenges. The winter hunts take place from early March to early April and are under taken in the Greenland tradition using dog sleds for transportation and tents for accommodation, cabins are often used too.

This is a real frontier experience. Later in the year the summer hunts run from mid-July to early August. During this period the hunting area is accessed by helicopter and boats, the accommodation is in really good hotels ore comfortable lodges..

The weather is more suitable to europe at this time of year and there is 24-hour daylight. Whilst out in the field a radio link with base camp is maintained in case of emergency and there is ready access to boats or helicopters back to base should a situation warrant it..

Musk-ox licences are extremely limited and clients should give as much notice as possible if wishing to book a hunt. Our previous clients have a 100% success rate and have all returned delighted with the experience.

GreenMuskox027We offer weel equipped boats for the hunting with experianced guides and captain, drinks and packed lunch in the boat while hunting.. All true hunters have to have a bite of the fresh liver from the fallen animal, quite exiting experiance thats is memorable forever..

We start in the morning and head to the area around glacier Eyjafjallajökull. We drive on rough roads and cross numerous glacier rivers to reach Thorsmörk glacier and volcano valley. We spend some time exploring these adventurous surroundings. In the early afternoon we leave this lovely rugged environment and drive down to the black basalt sand shore south of Eyjafjallajökull-glacier. Right here by the Atlantic Ocean we experience the enhanced driving ability with the partly deflated 38" tires. In the end off the day we head back to Rangá lodge.

We have some very good days available in Hvannadalsa, one of our rivers in the West-Fjords. We have been cultivating this river for a number of years now, and the results have been extremely good. A couple of years ago the river nearly broke the 500 salmon mark – on  only 3 rods.

Like so many rivers in Iceland the prime season is from late July until late August, so these are very good dates.

Recent Catches

The River Dee saw a lot of anglers fishing the length of the catchment looking for the elusive salmon with catches reported from Park to Crathie. If you were in the right place at the right time there were fish to be caught. The numbers of fish running this river so far do appear to be well down on last year’s excellent spring catch with season to date catch of 1286 quite a bit down on the 5 year average spring catch of 2028. That said FishDee beats reported 143 salmon to 21 lbs and 8 sea trout. Carlogie had an excellent total with anglers catching 21 salmon, Aboyne Water and Birse reported 10 apiece with Ballogie and Cairnton just one behind on 9 apiece.

Blanda_opnun_2010_100607_8.jpg

The spring has finally arrived in Iceland and now we are all awaiting the summer with great anticipation. Even though the trout season has already started – we are all counting down the days until the salmon season starts. It’s only three weeks away.

Blanda is our first river to open on June 5th and in mid and late June other Icelandic rivers follow suit. Our new river Skjalfandafljot opens on June 18th (we are very excited about this one), the Ranga’s (East & West) come into play in the beginning of July and Vididalsa opens in late June. By July 1st all our rivers in Iceland have opened up.

Gaula in Norway and Kola and Varzina in Russia are in their prime in June – But Lakselva in Norway reaches the height of the season in July.

The Dee in Scotland has been open since the beginning of February and began with a bang, low waters plagued the river in March but things are looking up now.

In July we will welcome our first groups in the new hunting & angling camp in Greenland – our biggest hunting project to date.
